Hosta are easy to grow perennial plants that perform best in fertile, moist soils. While all hosta will grow in full shade, some varieties will grow well in full sun also (please see individual variety descriptions for sun tolerance).
All hosta produce flowers. These flower scapes may be removed after flowering is completed, or if the flowers are not desired, they may be removed prior to blooming without hurting the plant. Avoid planting hosta in dry, sandy soils and in hot, direct sun locations. A hosta that is receiveing too much sun will have dry, brown leaf edges. If this is noticed, transplant the hosta to a location with more shade.
Blue leafed hosta perform best and have the most intense color when exposed to less than 2 hours of sunlight.
